The medical unit in Asylum Centre Krnjaca was reactivated on 8 December 2016, fully rehabilitated by DRC within the project "Support to Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Serbia", funded by UNHCR. The adequate medical equipment and furniture for rooms for examination, treatment and isolation have been provided in close cooperation with Primary Health Centre Palilula.
Two DRC/UNHCR teams, both consisting of a medical doctor and a nurse, have been engaged through Primary Health Centre Palilula to work in Asylum Centre Krnjaca since 1 July 2016. In the newly rehabilitated infirmary, they work together with medical staff engaged by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and provide medical services every day from 7 AM to 22 PM. The medical teams assist all persons in need among about 1100 people currently accommodated in the Centre, provide medications and organise referral and follow-up of specific cases which require specialised health-care services in health-care institutions in Belgrade.
