Danish Refugee Council took part in the football tournament organised on 10 December by local NGO “Youth for Refugees” as a community activity aiming to promote inclusion of refugees from Presevo and Bujanovac Reception Centres. Teams from Elementary School Vuk Karadzic, Elementary School Ibrahim Kelmendi, Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, Reception Centre Presevo, along with two teams from Reception Centre Bujanovac, played in the tournament.
Danish Refugee Council helped forming one team of minors from Presevo Reception Centre and coached them for the tournament. Recreational Facilitator, working in Child Friendly Space funded by UNICEF, introduced daily football coaching for younger children. His efforts proved successful, considering that DRC UNICEF team won first place in the group of younger children, while Mohamed Javad (10) from Afghanistan, was pronounced as the best player of the tournament in his age group.
Small community events play significant role in breaking prejudges and promote inclusion of refugee children into local communities.
